About Nordbok
What is Nordbok?
Nordbok (Nordic Literature and Library Committee) is a committee under
the Nordic Council of Ministers.
It was appointed on January 1 1989 with a view to encourage the propagation
of Nordic literature and to strengthen public library cooperation in the
Nordic countries.
The committee consists of ten
representatives from the Nordic countries who have biannual meetings.
Nordbok's secretariat is located in Oslo at ABM-utvikling
- The Norwegian Archive, Library and Museum Authority for a period
of three years (2003-2005).
Aims
• to ensure more inter-Nordic translations of books for children
and adults
• to contribute to the increased promotion of literature in Nordic
minority languages
• to support cooperation between Nordic public libraries
• to protect the Nordic community of language
• to strengthen cooperation in the library world and the world of
literature between the Nordic countries, the Nordic localities and Europe
• to ensure Nordic participation in international cooperation within
the field of literature and libraries
Grants
Nordbok grants financial support towards
• the inter-Nordic translation of Nordic literature
• stipends for translators
• towards literary projects, such as seminars, fairs, conferences,
publications, courses for authors and translators etc.
• author's visit in public library

• Nordic Council's literature prize

Nordbok's other tasks
• initiate projects which will serve to extend the knowledge of
Nordic literature and/or contribute to making Nordic literature in the
original languages more accessible in the individual Nordic countries
• act as consultant to the Nordic Council of Ministers in the field
of literature and libraries
• inform about Nordic literature and library cooperation both within
the Nordic countries and outside
